Afghanistan will become the first team to qualify for Super 4 stage in Asia Cup 2022 – Aakash Chopra

After a day’s break, the focus shifts back to group B in the Asia Cup 2022 as Afghanistan take on Bangladesh.

Mohammad Nabi and co. are high on confidence after an easy victory against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 opener.

A loss for Bangladesh would result in Afghanistan becoming the first team to qualify for the super 4 round. Further, it will set up a knock-out match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on 1st September.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener turned analyst Aakash Chopra has weighed his prediction for the match. The 44-year-old believes Afghanistan are the clear favourite and pointed out Bangladesh’s dismal form.

“Bangladesh are in bad form. They are just not winning at all. The team fell short against Zimbabwe in the ODIs and does not look promising in the T20Is either. “

He further stated the only way for Bangladesh to uplift their chances is if the pitch offers spin.

“If it is a spin-friendly pitch, where not too many runs are scored, then only Bangladesh have brighter chances for qualification,” stated Chopra.

Notably, Bangladesh have won just two T20I matches they played post-T20I World Cup last year.

Chopra further compared the two sides and said that Bangladesh have no batsmen in form. On the other hand, he called Afghanistan’s team a ‘gun team’.

He praised Mohammad Nabi’s side and said, “They are a gun team. Everyone loves to hit sixes. Looking at their form, the pitch would be perfect for them to express themselves.”
