Asia Cup 2022: Ravi Shastri Slams Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma for Team Selection

Asia Cup 2022: Former India Head Coach Ravi Shastri has lashed at the current Indian management led by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for ignoring the veteran speedster Mohammed Shami completely in the T20I squad. Notably, Shami hasn’t played a single T20I after team India’s horrific show in the UAE’s ICC T20 World Cup 2021 as well.

Since the end of the last T20 World Cup, the current Indian team management has left out Mohammed Shami from the T20 setup. He did not feature in the home series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and South Africa also. Moreover, wasn’t picked for the away series for Ireland, England, and West Indies too.

While commentating during the 2nd innings of the India vs Sri Lanka Super 4 match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022, Ravi Shastri opened up on Mohammed Shami being completely sidelined from the Indian T20I setup. Shastri has also said that the team management and selectors should have looked at Shami after this year’s IPL as well.

Meanwhile, Team India are in a tough situation where their selection depends on the other teams’ result. However, Mohammed Shami was picked by the Gujarat Titans franchise for IPL 2022. He claimed the first wicket of the tournament this year and Ashish Nehra and Hardik Pandya used him quite well in the beginning overs and in the middle overs too as well. Shami didn’t bowl many overs in the death for Gujarat Titans but still claimed wickets. In the 16 matches he played, he picked up 20 wickets at an average of 24.40 and with an economy rate of 8. oo as well.
