Captain Rohit Sharma was not comfortable during the post-match presentation ceremony after India’s defeat against Sri Lanka, which almost eliminated the defending champions from the Asia Cup 2022.
Chasing 174, Lanka was given a flying start by the two openers – Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, who scored the fifties, respectively. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka completed the proceedings.
“We couldn’t capitalize after a good partnership. The middle-order batters could not score freely, and we were a few runs short in the end. The bowlers tried their best, but their openers were terrific. Our spinners bowled well and took key wickets. Look, we have to learn from our mistakes and improve our performance,” he said.
Rohit was India’s top scorer, with 72 off 41 coming from his bat. However, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda were not among the runs.
