The Indian fast bowling unit is severely missing the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. The duo suffered an injury nearly a month around that forced them to miss Asia Cup. However, if reports are to be believed both Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have cleared their fitness test and will be part of the T20 World Cup squad. In the press conference ahead of the Sri Lankan clash, Team India’s coach Rahul Dravid mentioned that Harshal Patel’s inclusion in the squad was subjected to his fitness.

The multinational tournament will be organized in Australia this year in October and November. While Australia, England, and South Africa have already announced their squads, India is expected to announce it over the weekend. The multinational tournament will be organized in Australia this year in October and November. While Australia, England, and South Africa have already announced their squads, India is expected to announce it over the weekend. The performances of the players in the Asia Cup may have given the selectors clarity on which player would be the ideal candidate for the T20 World Cup squad.

It is likely that Avesh Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will find it difficult to find a place for themselves in the team. In the 5 Asia Cup games, Bhuvneshwar only delivered well in one game against Afghanistan. Avesh Khan, on the other hand, had to leave the tournament mid-way because of his illness. Moreover, Australian conditions are favorable for fast bowlers. Therefore, the management might be pondering upon selecting a combination that will provide at least 6 bowling options.

Mohammad Shami who has been out of the T20Is since the last World Cup could be one of the 6 bowling options. In order to face Australia and South Africa in the two home matches, the BCCI will play a full-strength squad. Both Harshal and Bumrah will get a series before playing in the T20 World Cup.

Team India’s likely squad for T20 World Cup:

  • Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik
  • All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Deepak Hooda
  • Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Arshdeep Singh
