Team India’s chance to defend their Asia Cup 2022 almost ended after the defeat against Sri Lanka in Dubai.
The Men in Blue have lost to Pakistan and Lanka in the Super 4 stage, with just one contest remaining against Afghanistan.
The team management benched Dinesh Karthik in the last two games, which surprised many.
Speaking a the presser after the defeat against Sri Lanka, India captain Rohit Sharma revealed the reason behind dropping Karthik.
“We wanted a left-hander to bat in the middle; that’s why Karthik is out. He is not out because of his form. The inclusion of a left-hander didn’t work for us,” said Rohit.
Karthik only faced one ball against Pakistan, while the wicketkeepers didn’t get a chance to bat against Hong Kong. Pant scored 12 and 17 in 2 matches of Super Four.
