Former Indian player Gautam Gambhir lauded Virat Kohli for his innings against Afghanistan but was surprised the selectors didn’t drop him from the team for failing to score a hundred in three years.
Virat’s 71st hundred came after 2019, and he went through a lot during his challenging days. He came back to cricket after a long break in the Asia Cup 2022 and accumulated 122 runs in the last game of the tournament. He hit 12 fours and 6 sixes at the Dubai International Stadium.
“He batted well against Afghanistan, but it was surprising for me that he was retained in the team despite not scoring a hundred in three years. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Cheteshwar Pujara were dropped, but not Kohli. He has earned that. I don’t remember any player in the past who was allowed to continue to play without hitting a century for that long,” he said.
