Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Indian team management to work on the weaknesses after a below-par display in the ongoing Asia Cup T20 tournament, saying that fans should also forget the Asia Cup 2022 and back the side for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Gavaskar’s comments came after Sri Lanka thumped India in the Super 4 stage of the tournament. The result has almost eliminated the Men in Blue from the event.
“Let’s support our team and forget about the Asis Cup 2022. What is more important now? The ICC T20 World Cup 2022. We haven’t won the world title in the shortest format since 2007. India has won the Asia Cup a couple of times. It is time to get behind the players,” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
India won both its group games against Pakistan and Hong Kong but lost the two contests in the second round.
