BBL side Melbourne Stars have signed India’s star player Jemimah Rodrigues for the upcoming 8th WBBL edition. The 22-year-old has become the first Indian to sign for the Stars.
The young Rodrigues made her BBL debut last season with Melbourne Renegades. The right-handed player scored 333 runs in 13 games and was the 2nd highest run-getter for the Renegades behind her Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.
Rodrigues made her international debut in 2017 against South Africa when she was 17.
Elated with the announcement, Rodrigues said, “It is my honor to be the first-ever Indian to sign for the Stars. Melbourne has always been my favorite city in Australia, and I can’t wait to go back there.”
Women BBL’s 8th season begins on 13th October, but Jemimah will miss the first two games due to the women’s Asia Cup, which starts from 1st October till 16th October.

Melbourne Stars’ general manager Blair Crouch said that Rodrigues would soon become a fan favorite and a player of her quality is always a plus for the squad.
Notably, on Monday, when Jemimah celebrated her 22nd birthday, she got nominated for the ICC Player of the Month award for her performance in the CWG in August.
