Babar Azam has been lambasted by former Pakistan players for his captaincy and the team’s campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup. The Men in Green lost their first two games against India and Zimbabwe, almost ending their semi-final chances. Despite registering two wins after a poor start, they depend on the results of other teams for a place in the knockout stage.
Babar has been asked to step down, and former player Mohammad Hafeez is among those who have been critical of the skipper. However, he has taken a shocking U-turn on the team’s current leader.
Speaking to a Pakistan news channel after the team’s defeat against the Rohit Sharma-led team, Hafeez had compared Babar with a sacred cow that cannot be criticized.
However, when Hafeez was asked to comment on Babar’s form and captaincy on Saturday, he lashed out at the critics.
“He hasn’t been a long-serving skipper in domestic cricket, and he is trying his best after getting the captain’s armband of the national team. We all have made mistakes, and it’s time to support Babar rather than slam him. It is easy to comment from outside, and only the captain knows what is happening inside when a team is playing a game,” he said.
