Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah to continue as president and secretary till 2025 after Supreme Court’s verdict in their favor

The Supreme Court allowed the BCCI to amend its constitution, meaning Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah can continue as president and secretary till 2025.

According to the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, any official who has completed six years, be it at a state association, board, or combination of both, will have to go through a cooling-off period.

The apex of Indian cricket amended its constitution after Ganguly and Shah came on board. Still, they didn’t have the mandate to implement it without the approval of India’s highest court.

According to the BCCI, three years were not enough to carry out the new policies for the betterment of Indian cricket, and any official should be allowed to stay in the office for 6 years.

Now, the cooling-off period of 3 years will apply only if a person serves two consecutive terms at the BCCI or the State Association. Also, the cooling period requirement will apply at that particular level, whether the State association or BCCI.

Also, it will not bar one from seeking election to the BCCI even after serving two consective terms in state association.

A division bench comprising Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Hima Kohli passed the order in the plea filed by the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI).
