Sri Lanka gave a tight slap to India and Pakistan – Former player

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has hit out at the unnecessary importance given to India and Pakistan matches during the Asia Cup 2022. Gavaskar said that Sri Lanka have given a timely reminder to the Indian team by winning the tournament.

“Everyone was talking about India and Pakistan as if these two teams were the only ones in the Asia Cup 2022. Sri Lanka have won their 6th title, which is second to India’s 7. When discussing contenders, you must not ignore Sri Lanka at any cost. And they have given a tight slap to India, Pakistan and those who were thinking that arch-rivals will clash in the final of the event,” he said.

Sri Lanka lost the first game of the Asia Cup but then went on to win five consecutive matches to lift the Asia Cup trophy.

“The aim is to win the tournament, not one or two games against each other. Beating Pakistan is great, but that won’t give you trophies. You have to win 4 out of the 5 matches because then you can make it to the knockouts,” he added.

India selected their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup on Monday 12.
