The BCCI on Monday announced the 15-member squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. The team is almost identical to the one which played at the recently concluded Asia Cup.
The notable changes are Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who are back in the side. Avesh Khan and Ravindra Jadeja have missed out, while Ravi Bishnoi will travel as a standby.
The other backup players are Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami, and Deepak Chahar.
As soon as the squad was announced, experts and fans gave their assessments of the team. Unfortunately, most of them weren’t satisfied with the list.
Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin was also unhappy with the squad, particularly with the omission of two players.
The 59-year-old took to Twitter to reveal that he was shocked to see Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer’s missing from the 15-member list.
Further, Azhar said Iyer should have been picked instead of Deepak Hooda and Shami in place of Harshal Patel.
The veteran’s comments came after India’s dismal performance in the Asia Cup. However, the fans reminded him that the upcoming World Cup is in Australia, not in UAE. Thus, Iyer would have a hard time facing short deliveries.
The fans showed no mercy on the former skipper and brutally trolled him for his comments. India’s squad for the T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh.
Standby players – Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar.
