The best thing would be to quit social media – Sunil Gavaskar to cricketers after Arshdeep Singh’s incident

Former batter Sunil Gavaskar urged the cricketers not to take trolls seriously as they hide behind someone else’s name.

Arshdeep Singh became the latest Indian cricketer to face abuse on social media platforms after his poor catching against Pakistan.

“It is not social media as there is nothing social about it. If you are on different platforms, you will have to face such situations. The best thing would be to quit social media,” Gavaskar was quoted as saying to India Today.

“I don’t understand why people give importance to trolls. They should be left alone. If a cricketer is making a nasty or critical comment, then it is important to take note of it as he has played the game,” he added.

“Somebody, who hasn’t played cricket and is using a fake identity, should be ignored. Media has a habit of writing sensational headlines to grab eyeballs.”
