India haven’t enjoyed success in the tournaments organized in the UAE. They were eliminated in the league phase during the ICC T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue failed to reach the tournament final in the Asia Cup 2022.
The 2021 World Cup was Virat Kohli’s last as a captain of the team in the slam-bang version of the game. While Rohit Sharma replaced Virat, head coach Ravi Shastri decided not to seek another term. Rahul Dravid took the coaching duties from him.
The failure in the global tournament in 2021 was put on Kohli and Shastri by many.
“When we lost here last year, many said it was because of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri. Now even Rohit Sharma failed here. So that shows the team selection has issues, not the captain and coach,” said Aakash Chopra.
“Last time you suddenly picked players out of nowhere, leaving out Yuzvendra Chahal. Ishan Kishan played as an opener. You continued the same. You opened with Ishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Deepak Hooda, and now you suddenly dropped Dinesh Karthik and have three fast bowling options,” he added.
